Environmental Policy
KI has been dedicated to serving their customers, their community, and future generations in a way that will never harm the world in which we all live. KI believes that, big or small, every action that safeguards and restores the environment is significant. KI is committed to making that happen by creating and providing products that advance environmental and human health, social responsibility, and economic prosperity. We proudly champion our FISP membership because we believe it plays a critical role in shaping a more responsible and sustainable furniture industry. FISP’s industry specific framework empowers and guides us to make meaningful, continuous improvements across all pillars of sustainability. We commit to keep reviewing, refining and pushing for better.
KI complies with all legislation relating to its products and services. KI has a commitment to sustainable design and manufacturing and pollution prevention and is continuously striving to improve all processes and environmental performance.
KI has reviewed all of its manufacturing facilities and continues to look at processes to be more environmentally friendly, including such things as painting processes, adhesives, metal cleaning, finishes, and packaging. This is intended to not only improve the indoor air quality to the end user, but also to address waste minimisation, recycling, and the use of alternative nonhazardous materials. KI’s efforts are aimed at all media – water usage, wastewater discharges, air emissions, and solid/hazardous waste – in a comprehensive effort towards pollution prevention.
KI uses raw material options that have a positive impact on the environment. While many decisions may be motivated by a desire to protect the environment, KI considers the effects of raw materials on land use and substitution, and the broad range of environmental impacts inherent to the life cycle of its products.
KI continues to look into the development of products and product options with the largest percentage of recycled content and those which can be easily recycled, disassembled and repaired. KI continually searches for suppliers and alternative options that offer the largest recycled contents, utilising both post-consumer and postindustrial contents.
These aspects and impacts create a more friendly work environment for:
- The employees by improving the air quality in their environment and removing hazardous waste.
- The communities through pollution prevention, activities of waste minimisation or elimination and improved air quality.
Recognising its Corporate & Social Responsibility, KI has been approved under the ISO 14001 standard and continually drives best practice in this field throughout its organisation. The certification requires KI to be aware of and record the actions of its clients and suppliers in regard to CSR and Environment best practice by sending out an annual check to all its main suppliers.
Carbon reduction and Net Zero
KI is committed to reporting our operations and working towards reducing our carbon emissions by meeting our set goals. KI is committed to following the guidance of the “Pledge to Net Zero”.
Strategy
Our sustainable and “Design for the Environment” design ethos commits us to making a meaningful contribution to sustainable development goals (SDGs). SDG13 requires us to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, including reducing emissions to align with global commitments.
To continue to reduce our emissions for our operations we will:
- Continue to implement our facility and office emission reductions as part of our overall environmental management system.
- We will utilise science based targets and seek to set global reduction targets for our scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions and projections.
Implementation
- We will develop a GHG Management Plan which will identify targets for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, priorities for action, investment, governance, and reporting.
- We will increase the proportion of renewable energy consumed in our offices and be advocates for appropriate energy transition pathways in locations where purchasing renewable energy is limited.
- We will review our procurement practices to reduce consumption and minimise waste.
- We will explore partnerships and funding mechanisms to support GHG removal both through nature-based systems and technology to accelerate our own and our suppliers’ efforts to decarbonise.
- We will consider alternative working practices and provide information and support to employees on sustainable transport options to and from our offices and how best to work remotely.
- We will integrate our GHG reduction plans through the application of our Environment Policy and our Environmental Management Systems.
- We will communicate our progress to our clients and stakeholders via disclosure through our Corporate Social Responsibility Reporting and on our website.
There is an Environmental Team in place who will specifically refer to this policy whilst carrying out the tasks of their role. Environmental performance will be monitored by various members of the Environmental Team and Senior Management will be kept abreast of key information. This statement will be reviewed and approved annually.
