KI seating brings comfort and practicality to new Ponteland campus in Northumberland

February 15, 2021

One of the largest ever developments for Northumberland County Council, the new Ponteland campus is home to a community of 52 nursery, 420 primary, and 1600 secondary students.

The campus was built by Kier Construction and was designed to benefit both pupils and the wider local community. Alongside the schools, there is a café, a sports bar, a library, and leisure centre with a four-court sports hall. There is also a six-lane swimming pool, indoor cricket nets, virtual cycling studio, soft play area, and a spa & gym.

Sangwin Educational Furniture Ltd were awarded the contract by Kier to carry out the consultancy, manufacture and installation of the furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) throughout the school. Part of their goal was to create the best possible environments for students. KI's iconic Postura+ chairs were chosen in a variety of sizes and colours including Lime Zest, Ash Grey and Tangerine Fizz for the classrooms, library, and break-out spaces. Ergonomically designed to promote good posture, the chairs are made with 100% recyclable high impact-resistant polypropylene, and are stain-resistant. Postura+ stools were also used for the science labs along with Postura+ Task Chairs in the ICT rooms.

A number of KI's Maestro chairs were also used throughout the school where their lightweight, durable and high-density stackable design was required.

Craig Hardy, managing director at Sangwin Educational Furniture Ltd, comments, "With the help of our trusted supply chain partners including KI we were able to provide samples quickly to enable decisions to be made on styles & colours. With a project of this size it's imperative that the agreed delivery dates are coordinate. We found that with KI, nothing was too much trouble. We've developed an excellent relationship with the team over the years and this relationship has been a big part of our success. Long may it continue."
